The Vald’Orcia valley stretches between Siena and Monte Amiata. The entire valley is a protected World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is truly breath-taking to take in first hand. There is no shortage of hilltop towns to visit, each with their own histories and spectacular views. Two of the most beautiful ones are Pienza and Montalcino – both within easy reach from the farm for a day trip. The beautiful Monte Amiata is the highest peak in Southern Tuscany and offers skiing in winter. In the warmer months there are a host of hiking trails ranging from very easy for beginners to a 27km loop of the mountain for more seasoned hikers.
