VALDICHIANA

The Valdichiana valley is a stretch of land in the South East of Tuscany which once used to be a plain of water, but was reclaimed by Pietro Leopoldo in the 18th century. For this reason, you still see many canals criss-crossing the area. This valley, easily accessed from Podere Lamberto, has three lakes to explore namely, Lake Trasimeno, Lake Montepulciano and Lake Chiusi all with different characteristics and attractions. Small hilltop towns are scattered all along the valley, with Castiglione del Lago and Cortona being especially memorable. There is a hiking and biking trail (called the
Path of Reclamation) which is very well maintained and offers easy access to explore the valley.
